Pixel Academy uses a holistic, hands-on approach to inspire and empower kids to understand and create with digital technology all year round. We don't just funnel kids through impersonal, cookie-cutter classes and forget about them; all of our instruction is project-based, every participant's project is unique, and our passion for sharing digital tech skills doesn't expire at the end of the summer. Our programs empower kids to explore the STEM skills that will define their world and to apply them to exciting creative projects across multiple disciplines.
Each CAMP/pixel topic is designed to facilitate fundamental understanding of relevant, 21st-century STEM skills through fun, hands-on learning. Our workshops are infused with inquiry-based activities and exercises so each camper is not only introduced to these concepts but can feel ownership over them and understand why they're important. We use inherently cool vehicles (like Minecraft and YouTube) to teach otherwise intimidating skills (like coding in Java and online safety.) Campers leave CAMP/pixel with a finished project of their own creation and a practiced ability to apply digital tech skills in creative ways.
We're offering a flexible timeframe for your convenience, every day of CAMP/pixel. We won't start the activities until 9:15 a.m.; you're welcome to drop off as early as 8:30 a.m. for your camper to come and have a bit of free time before the camp day begins.
Our program wraps up at 2:30 p.m. every day. You're welcome to drop in anytime between then and 3:00 p.m. to pick up your child. For security purposes, campers are only released from our supervision to individuals listed in their account. If you need time past 3:00 p.m., we offer Extended Care.
EXTENDED CARE (3:00-5:30 p.m.)
Extended Care is a great option for campers who want more time to socialize and for parents who need to pick-up campers later than 3:00 p.m. After a full day of camp, Extended Care is not more of the same; instead of continuing to work with our Instructors and technology, campers in Extended Care have an opportunity to relax, socialize with one another, and play off-screen games.
Campers take several screen breaks throughout the camp day as a chance to reset, move around, and socialize! Challenge Activities are kinetic, group-oriented games campers play for a few minutes to get to know each other and the instructors.
Every day begins and ends with a circle. It's an opportunity for the campers to ready, plan, reflect, and socialize to start and end the day. Your child will always have an opportunity to center him or herself before getting into the exciting activities of the day, and collect and reflect at the end. This is our first and last opportunity for us to ensure the entire group is following Rule 1: Have Fun.
We love playing outside! Weather permitting, we head to a local playground around mid-day to take an extended screen break, get out some energy, and socialize and play together (yes, staff plays too!) On days when the weather prevents us from going outside, our inside activities promote the same goals.
Sitting around and passively consuming computer games isn't the CAMP/pixel formula. Depending on the topic, campers may earn a few moments to test the games they make or play on our servers as a well-deserved reward for hard work.
Two snacks per day are included in your CAMP/pixel ticket! We carefully select healthy, delicious snacks for our campers to nibble on during these social, 15-minute screen breaks. Clif bars, KIND Healthy Grains bars, and Annie's Fruit Snacks are examples from our past camps.
We set aside plenty of time for a mid-day reset for our campers. Check back soon for information on an optional add-on for fresh daily lunches, provided by CAMP/pixel!
Please note that while we make our best efforts to make our food offerings healthy and available to all, we do not operate allergen-free facilities. Please send separate food items with your camper if it is a concern. If your camper has serious allergies, please feel free to contact us to speak about whether CAMP/pixel is right for your child.
